AFC Launches
Cinematography, Scriptwriting, Production Management Workshops and
Collaborative Film Project - FREE!
WHAT:
The AFC will introduce a series of free workshops on Cinematography,
Scriptwriting, and Production Management for the independent film.
Workshops will be accompanied by a collaborative film project to reinforce
concepts. Various topics such as lighting, audio, and special effects
will be introduced during the workshops.
SCRIPTWRITING
workshops will explain the theory of screenwriting such as creating
compelling characters, plot, beat, sequence, scene structure, setup,
confrontation, resolution, building suspense, themes, exposition,
and more. Students will also learn proper formatting of a screenplay;
formulas for outlining plot points and beats; film budgeting and scheduling
techniques based on screenplay; and more subjects related to screenwriting.
Demo of screenwriting tools included.
PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
workshops will cover budgeting tools, location scouting, optimum scene
breakdown, props management, crew roles and responsibilities, call
sheet, daily production reports, shooting schedule, and so on.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
workshops will discuss camera techniques and approaches such as framing
& compositional rules, cuts, camera angles, scene filming methods
such as triple-take, screen direction, action axis, matching shots,
continuity, and other topics.
SPECIAL TOPICS
seminars will be introduced during the workshops to be timed with
the collaborative film project and will be announced before hand.
Topics include lighting, audio, special effects, and more.
LIGHTING seminar
will deal with multi-point lighting, color temperature, filters, reflectors,
color correction gels, diffusion, various light sources and types,
use of shadows, exposure, and more.
AUDIO seminar
will cover basic audio acquisition and enhancements techniques to
acquire and produce the best audio possible using available hardware
and software tools.
COLLABORATIVE
FILM PROJECT will help students solidify their understanding of filmmaking
theory by jointly working together to choose a film idea, develop
a screenplay, participate in the filming of the screenplay, and edit
the final cut. This is the ultimate cooperative film production experience.
The AFC facilitator will moderate the discussions, help write the
screenplay based on team input, offer creative and technical advice,
and provide production management support when needed, but the creative
inputs as well as the actual production will be performed by the participating
student filmmakers.
