AFC FILM OVERDOSE SELECTED TO TEHRAN INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

(JORDAN - 29/10/2006) The Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) has selected Ammar Quttaineh's short film Overdose to compete in its 23rd session, to be held from the 21st until the 26th of November 2006 in the Iranian capitol city Tehran.

Overdose has previously won Best Short Fiction at the Jordan Short Film Competition (05) and the Audience Golden Choice Award at the Jordan Short Film Festival (05). The short film was produced by the Amman Filmmakers Cooperative (AFC).

Since its production, Overdose has screened at numerous high-profile international film festivals including the Academy-certified Tampere Short Film Festival (06), Finland.

The controversial short comedy Overdose is a critique of the neo-conservatives' efforts to stifle freedom of the press in the Arab world, and features a female reporter lost in a world of gray values and political chaos, torn by her duty to report the news and the pressure from above to paint a rosy picture.

The film idea crystallized after the US bombing of Al-Jazeera Satellite TV compounds in Afghanistan and later in Iraq killing frontline Al-Jazeera reporter Tariq Ayub, a Jordanian citizen. "Overdose is a parody of the dark comedy unfolding before our very eyes, whereby freedom of the press is coming under fire in the name of spreading democratic values" said Hazim Bitar, founder and coordinator of the Amman Filmmakers Cooperative (AFC).

The Overdose cast includes Omar Saleh, Ammar Omary, Majd Hijjawi, Yehya Abdallah, and Sameh Hijjawi.

The Amman Filmmakers Cooperative (AFC) is a cultural initiative aimed at promoting independent Arab cinema.
